Collection Keeper Pro

Collection Keeper Pro is an application that enables you to easily keep track of your collections. It is specifically made for physical media collections such as CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, Laserdiscs, Books, Video Games, etc., but can be used for much more. It is the spiritual successor of My Media Catalog and is available for free as a web app and for Windows in the Microsoft Store.

Features

  • Automatically gather detailed media data and images by scanning the barcode using your device camera, an external barcode scanner, or by searching by keyword.
  • Back up and sync your collection across multiple devices using Dropbox.
  • Organize your collection into "catalogs" that contain any number of different types of media.
  • Export your data to CSV format for easy manipulation in spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Import your data from CSV format for quick and easy bulk data entry.

History

Collection Keeper Pro began as a COVID-project cross-platform rewrite of My Media Catalog with the goal of unifying into a single codebase, while also adding long-requested support for the iOS platform and removing reliance on the deprecated Amazon lookup API for gathering data. With all of these goals met, it went live on August 30th, 2020 for Android in the Google Play store, August 31st, 2020 for Windows in the Microsoft Store, and September 2nd, 2020 for iOS in the Apple App Store. The app was (and remains) free to download and use, but at the time of publishing, data lookups via the new data lookup API were purchased as add-ins to the app via the associated app store. Due to changes in the source APIs, all charges have been removed and the app is now completely free, including unlimited data lookups.

While initially available for iOS, I have subsequently removed the app from the Apple App Store due to Apple's yearly $99 developer fee required to list all apps, even free. Additionally, Apple requires compilation of all binaries on Apple hardware, which I do not possess nor wish to purchase. The Android version has also been removed from the Google Play Store after Google began requiring developers to display their full home address in the store listing. The Windows version remains available in the Microsoft Store.

More recently, I've been working on a web-based version of Collection Keeper Pro, available at CollectionKeeperPro.com. The web version addresses the iOS gap nicely, as it works on any device with a browser, and it also doubles as a Progressive Web App that can be installed on your phone's home screen. Going forward, new features will be focused on the web version, though the Windows app remains available and functional.
