History

For years I used Splitwise to track shared expenses with family and friends. It did a fine job, but at some point they decided to put basic features behind a paywall. I get that developers need to eat, but I wasn't thrilled about paying a subscription for something that boils down to simple arithmetic. So I decided to build my own.

The goal with Splitonomy was to keep things as simple as possible. Most expense-splitting apps seem to pile on features that the average user will never touch. I just wanted to create a group, add some expenses, and see who owes what. That's it. Minimize the bells and whistles, no monthly fee.

The result is a straightforward web app that does exactly what it needs to do and nothing more. It also works as a Progressive Web App, so you can install it on your phone's home screen and use it just like a native app without having to deal with an app store.
